keep your heart blooming
Fine art and illustrations by Cleo Lant
Since graduating from Sheridan College with a Honours Bachelor of Illustration (2018) and a post-graduate certificate in Interactive Media Management (2019), Cleo has embraced a creative career. By day she works as a professional multimedia designer, by night; an emerging fine artist.
The secret garden
Since childhood Cleo has been fascinated with the transformational beauty of the natural world. At the heart of her work is a desire to tell human stories with the botanical, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and memories.
Look closely and you’ll see longing, passion, euphoria, turmoil, and decay between these dreamy blooms.
Petals and thorns
For Cleo, the allure of florals goes beyond colour and scent. Transience is what makes a flower truly captivating, as well as the dichotomy of delicate petals and sharp thorns. Plants, especially flowers, are a fleeting expression of beauty and darkness, of joy and pain, of lightness and weight.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Cleo’s expressive floral paintings are known for their bold use of colour, particularly in the vibrant reds of poppies and roses. She uses swift brushstrokes and explosive compositions to capture the energy and complexity of the natural world.
“If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.”
Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
“I must have flowers, always, and always.”
Claude Monet
